Wedding at Palácio Nacional de Queluz
Andrew and Vanessa came from Switzerland to marry in Lisbon. They wanted a day with older air than the one they live in, and they were willing to let the city set the pace rather than build something from nothing.
The morning was at Pestana Palace, the Valle Flôr residence in Alcântara, built at the turn of the last century for a man who made his fortune in cocoa and was given a title for it. It is a national monument now, and the gardens around it hold a thousand species that have had a century to settle. Vanessa dressed in rooms of exotic wood and mirrors, with the light coming through in long panels across the floor.
The ceremony was at Basílica da Estrela. Queen Maria I ordered it built in 1779 to keep a vow, and the interior is still one of the most beautiful in Europe: grey, pink and yellow marble laid into the floor and walls in geometry that takes a minute to read. Under that dome, voices carry differently. Everyone hears the vows at the same time, which is not how most ceremonies work.
The evening was at Palácio Nacional de Queluz, the palace where that same queen lived, though the couple did not plan the day around her. Queluz closes to the public at six. The rooms empty, the sound in them drops, and a building that spent the afternoon being a museum becomes a house with guests in it. Andrew and Vanessa took the terrace and the gardens while the light went, and stayed inside long after it did.

We had never worked with a professional photographer before, so when we hired Oleg for our wedding in France, we didn't really know what to expect. Looking back, we couldn't have wished for a better experience. On the day itself, he somehow managed to be everywhere without ever making us feel like we were constantly being photographed. Candid moments, editorial portraits, film photography, drone shots, our guests, all the little details, and an amazing short wedding video as a bonus. We never had to worry about whether an important moment was being captured. Neither of us is confident in front of a camera, but he showed us how to stand, where to look and where the best light was. It never felt awkward or staged. Our full gallery arrived less than a month after the wedding. Our planner, who has been in the industry for around 20 years, said he had rarely seen a photographer work as hard. We couldn't recommend Oleg more highly.
