Every wedding starts as somebody's idea of a day: a year of decisions about light, colour, order and the people in the room. As an editorial and film wedding photographer in Portugal, based in Lisbon, my first job is to understand that idea and my second is to photograph it without flattening it. Twelve years and three hundred weddings across Europe have taught me to hold two things at once, the way a day looks and the way it feels, and to give up neither for the other. What I hand back should carry both: the design you spent a year on, and the parts you could not have planned.

I like mixing registers inside a single wedding rather than committing to one look. An editorial portrait, a candid frame a minute later, a detail in hard midday light, the whole property from above, direct flash once the dance floor fills. Colour stays natural throughout, close to what the place actually gave me, because natural tones are what keep an image timeless. Current ideas find their way in as well, but they always sit on top of a classical frame, and the classical frame is what carries the photograph.
I carry 35mm film alongside digital at every wedding. Film is not perfect, and that is exactly where its magic sits: the grain, the drift of colour, the small imperfections that make a frame feel like the moment rather than a record of it. Those frames break up the gallery and change its temperature. A set that runs entirely on digital reads clean and even. A few rolls of film running through it gives the whole thing air and atmosphere.
I do not shoot to a formula. Every wedding gets a different mix of the same ingredients. What stays constant is the standard, not the recipe.
STYLE
You are planning your wedding somewhere in Europe. You care how the photographs look, and you care more about what they will mean in twenty years.
You would rather be inside your own day than posed through it, and when you do pose, you want the result to look like an editorial rather than a formality. You want a photographer who will guide you and make it feel easy, so that standing in front of a camera stops feeling like a task somewhere in the first minute.
You like the idea of film running through the gallery alongside the digital work. A handful of frames with grain and drift in them, the ones that give a whole set its atmosphere. You want the day seen from more than one angle too: the venue whole, the long table from above, the drive up to the house that everyone travelled to reach. And you want to open the gallery years later and feel the day again, not just recognise it.

We had never worked with a professional photographer before, so when we hired Oleg for our wedding in France, we didn't really know what to expect.
